This role is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and supporting business-critical applications that underpin Bottomline payment and financial technology solutions. Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, the Applications Developer will contribute to the delivery of high-quality software enhancements, defect resolution and customer-focused improvements across existing and new platforms. The role is ideally suited to an individual with 2–4 years of hands-on experience in Visual Basic and Java development, preferably gained within the payments, banking or wider financial services industry. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical capability, a structured approach to problem solving, and a commitment to delivering reliable, scalable and secure solutions in line with established engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Designing, developing and maintaining applications and software components using Visual Basic and Java.
Supporting the enhancement and maintenance of existing payment and financial software solutions.
Contributing to all phases of the software development lifecycle including analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation and support.
Troubleshooting application issues, identifying root causes and delivering timely defect resolution.
Collaborating with Product, QA, Support and other Engineering teams to deliver software changes aligned to business and customer requirements.
Writing clean, maintainable and well-documented code in accordance with development standards and best practices.
Preparing and executing unit tests, supporting integration testing and assisting with user acceptance testing where required.
Participating in code reviews and contributing to continuous improvement in code quality, performance and security.
Assisting with production support activities, including investigation of incidents and implementation of fixes.
Working with databases, interfaces and file-based integrations commonly used in payment and finance systems.
Supporting technical documentation including design notes, release information and support handover material.
Actively building knowledge of Bottomline solutions, payment workflows and financial industry requirements to support ongoing development and innovation.
