Gender: Any Candidate Nationality: Any Job Type: Full-time Role Context The Assistant Manager - Marine Education leads the day-to-day performance of the Marine Educator team while supporting the wider conservation and education strategy of the aquarium. The position combines people leadership, educational program delivery, guest experience, training, evaluation and operational coordination. By ensuring educators communicate accurate marine and conservation information in an engaging way, the role helps strengthen public awareness while supporting service quality, learning outcomes and aquarium business objectives. Key Responsibilities * Oversee daily Marine Educator operations and ensure educational activities are delivered to established standards. * Allocate team members according to program schedules, visitor volumes and operational priorities. * Maintain consistently professional and engaging guest interactions throughout aquarium education areas. * Ensure educators communicate accurate information about marine life, conservation and aquarium operations. * Deliver educational programs personally when operational requirements demand additional leadership support. * Delegate marine animal activities and learning sessions for individuals, families, schools and larger groups. * Monitor school program bookings and ensure staffing, resources and briefing requirements are completed in advance. * Coordinate preparation for organized educational visits and special learning experiences. * Maintain flexibility in program delivery according to audience size and operational conditions. * Coach supervisors and educators in marine interpretation techniques and conservation communication. * Ensure structured learning, research and practical participation are incorporated into team development. * Review educator knowledge through regular assessments, observation and performance feedback. * Provide constructive coaching that improves presentation quality and factual accuracy. * Work closely with Admissions and Dive teams to keep educators informed about tours and current programs. * Support the Manager, Conservation and Education in developing formal and informal learning initiatives. * Ensure educational activities align with the Education Strategy and applicable AZA Standards. * Participate in the development of new educational content, activities and supporting materials. * Conduct evaluation of learning programs to determine effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement. * Produce education and guest evaluation reports for management review. * Track relevant KPIs and recommend actions where performance requires improvement. * Oversee quality assessments for Marine Educators and Team Leaders. * Maintain accurate training and assessment records. * Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and departmental manuals remain current and operationally relevant. * Organize team meetings, briefings and training sessions when required. * Maintain safe, clean and professional environments for guests and colleagues. * Ensure Marine Educators follow appropriate animal welfare practices during all activities. * Manage scheduling and other departmental administrative requirements. * Coordinate ordering and maintain appropriate levels of educational and operational supplies. * Support event planning associated with aquarium education and conservation activities. * Prepare departmental reports and administrative documentation. * Assist with recruitment of suitable Marine Educators and other education team colleagues. * Coordinate structured onboarding for newly appointed team members. * Support colleague development through coaching, recognition and performance discussions. * Participate in annual performance reviews where applicable. * Assist with counseling and disciplinary processes in accordance with established HR practices. * Promote colleague engagement and support retention within the education team. * Help resolve challenging guest situations through calm and professional communication. * Support resolution of colleague conflicts and recurring performance concerns. * Monitor colleagues participating in cross-exposure programs and provide appropriate coaching. * Liaise with Sales teams regarding organized groups and educational opportunities. * Coordinate with Destination Management Companies when aquarium programming forms part of group experiences. * Work with Public Relations and Marketing teams for media activities, promotional events and aquarium shoots. * Maintain effective communication with internal departments supporting aquarium operations. * Support additional operational duties required for the effective functioning of the aquarium. Ideal Profile * Bachelor 's Degree in Education, Biology, Zoology, Marine Science, Communication or a related discipline is desirable. * Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience. * Previous education and guest experience work within a zoo, aquarium or museum is required. * Experience developing and implementing educational programs and learning materials. * Practical ability to evaluate educational activities and interpret program results. * Strong understanding of conservation education and guest engagement. * Confident leader capable of coaching educators and Team Leaders. * Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. * Effective task management and follow-up capability. * Good administrative ability combined with a strong customer focus. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Comfortable handling guest complaints and challenging conversations. * Able to manage colleague performance professionally and consistently. * Strong problem-solving ability in fast-moving operational situations. * Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. * Comfortable working outdoors and within busy aquarium environments. * Physically able to remain standing for extended periods and move throughout the property. * Able to balance administrative responsibilities with visible operational leadership.
