POSITION SUMMARY Barbacks keep the Snake Oil bar running. This role handles the physical and logistical backbone of event service - load-in, ice, glassware, product replenishment, and breakdown - at private events, brand activations, and venue programs. Barbacks work directly alongside Bartenders and under the direction of Event Managers and Bar Managers. It is a physical, fast-moving role, and it is the most common entry point into Snake Oil's bar program for people who want to learn the craft. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Bar Support • Stock and replenish bar stations with spirits, mixers, garnishes, ice, and glassware throughout service • Anticipate bartender needs and restock proactively during peak service periods • Prepare garnishes, cut fruit, polish glassware, and support mise en place • Manage ice supply, including hauling, filling, and rotating ice throughout the event • Maintain cleanliness of bar areas, including wiping down surfaces, clearing trash, and managing waste and recycling Event Preparation and Setup • Review event details, service instructions, and BEOs in the Nowsta scheduling platform prior to each scheduled shift • Arrive prepared and in proper uniform in accordance with company standards • Assist with load-in, transport, and placement of bar equipment, product, and supplies • Assist with bar station and service station setup according to event diagrams and direction from Event Managers or Bar Managers • Ensure all equipment, glassware, and service materials are clean and event ready Event Operations Support • Communicate clearly with Bartenders, Event Managers, and fellow staff throughout event execution • Adapt to changes in event timing, service needs, or guest volume • Maintain organization of back-of-bar and staging areas during events • Support overall event flow and operational efficiency Guest Interaction • Maintain a positive and respectful demeanor with guests, clients, vendors, and fellow staff • Direct guest requests to Bartenders or Beverage Stewards as appropriate Breakdown and Post-Event Duties • Break down bar stations and event equipment • Clean, pack, load out, and properly store product, materials, and equipment • Assist with restoring event spaces according to venue standards Required Education and Experience • Prior experience in hospitality, catering, event staffing, restaurant service, or bar support preferred • Experience working in fast-paced environments • Ability to follow operational instructions and work both independently and as part of a team • No prior bar experience required - training provided for candidates with strong work ethic and hospitality instincts Required Certifications and Licenses • Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification required prior to any shift that includes pouring or serving alcohol • California Food Handler Card required prior to first shift • Ability to complete any additional training required for event service roles Schedule and Availability • Hourly, event-based position • Shifts scheduled through Nowsta based on the event calendar • Nights, weekends, and holidays are regularly required due to event schedules • Shift hours vary based on event size and operational needs • Seasonal opportunity for three months with potential to convert to full-time regular Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and remain active for extended periods during events • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout a shift • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform physical event setup and load-out tasks • Ability to work in active event environments, including indoor and outdoor venues Compensation • Pay range is $18.00-$19.00 per hour for this seasonal opportunity • This role is eligible for the tip pool at events in addition to base pay rate • Event-based scheduling opportunities EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT Snake Oil Cocktail Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
