We have an exciting opportunity for  Draughtsman. The purpose of this role is to provide drafting services by creating, updating, and managing engineering drawings and technical records that support operational, maintenance, and project requirements while ensuring compliance with applicable standards and procedures. Kumba Iron Ore We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape. As Draughtsman your responsibilities will include but not limited to: Safety, Health, and Environment • Comply with the health, safety, and environmental requirements. • Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership. Drafting Services: • Prepare accurate and timely mechanical, civil, and structural drawings according to approved standards and specifications. • Update and revise drawings as required by operational and project needs. • Ensure drawings are captured, stored, and maintained in the relevant drawing management systems before release. • Allocate drawing numbers, titles, and descriptions in accordance with document control requirements. • Maintain an up-to-date drawing database to support effective retrieval and utilisation. • Ensure customer drawing requests are completed within agreed timeframes. Drawing Compliance and Quality: • Ensure drawings comply with company drawing standards and applicable specifications. • Verify information received for drafting activities to ensure accuracy. • Incorporate revisions and amendments as approved. • Maintain drawing quality and consistency in line with established drafting practices. Technical Drafting Support: • Interpret sketches, specifications, and engineering information to produce technical drawings. • Prepare layouts, detail drawings, and schematic drawings for components, structures, and assemblies. • Update existing drawings based on approved changes and modifications. • Monitor and manage allocated drafting requests using approved systems. • Ensure administrative and system requirements related to drafting activities are completed. Stakeholder Support: • Liaise with engineers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to obtain information required for drafting activities. • Provide drafting-related support and feedback on drawing progress. • Communicate drawing updates and outstanding requirements to the supervisor. Compliance: • Comply with company policies, procedures, standards, and safety requirements. • Adhere to all document control and drawing management processes. • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of technical information. This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a Band 7 (C-Upper) level reporting to the Discipline Mechanical Engineer. • Grade 12 /N3 Technical • Higher Certificate (NQF 5) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Studies, Drafting, or a related technical discipline. • CAD/MicroStation Certification • Autodesk Certified User (ACU) – Inventor • SA Drivers Licence Technical Knowledge • 3–5 years of relevant drafting experience in a mining, industrial, civil, structural, or engineering environment. • Understanding of engineering drawing principles, standards, and drafting conventions. • Knowledge of CAD systems and drafting software used within the organisation. • Familiarity with drawing control processes, including numbering, revisions, and document management requirements. • Understanding of mechanical, civil, and structural drawing elements relevant to the operational environment. • Knowledge of applicable SANS/SABS standards and company drafting requirements. • Awareness of engineering terminology, symbols, and technical specifications used in drawings. • Understanding of safety, health, environmental, and regulatory requirements applicable to drafting activities.
