Description
Our client is a major oil and gas operator in Gabon, operating onshore. The organization is recognized for its strong safety culture, operational excellence, and commitment to responsible and sustainable energy production. HSSE • Lead all health, safety, security, environmental, and well control aspects of drilling operations and new rig intake. • Ensure implementation of hazard identification and risk management throughout the well delivery process. • Lead HAZID and HAZOP for non‑routine operations and new technologies. • Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership, site engagement, and contractor oversight. • Ensure full compliance with company well control policies, standards, and contingency plans. Technical • Coordinate and oversee rig start‑up and execution of well programs in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. • Manage day‑to‑day drilling operations, including HSE, equipment, maintenance, and operational performance. • Provide expert technical guidance to Drilling Supervisors on drilling, completions, workovers, and abandonment activities. • Ensure availability, quality, and performance of contracted services and equipment. • Maintain and manage the well engineering risk register. • Track operational performance and drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and after‑action reviews. • Apply industry best practices and new technologies to enhance operational efficiency and value. • Contribute to the development of long‑term drilling strategies as part of the Wells Management Team. Management • Lead, coach, and develop well engineering teams both on site and in the office. • Manage performance reviews, development plans, and competency assessments. • Safeguard company assets, including wells, materials, and equipment. • Own and implement the company Well Delivery Process, standards, and controls. • Ensure compliance with legislative, environmental, and safety requirements. • Manage interfaces with key stakeholders including asset teams, contractors, service providers, and regulators. • Supervise drilling contractors and service personnel to ensure technical integrity and high‑quality delivery. • Act as Contract Holder for drilling services and rigs, as assigned. Requirements • Engineering degree or equivalent in petroleum engineering or a related discipline. • Extensive experience in oil and gas drilling and well operations, including leadership roles within wells teams. Knowledge & Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of HSE leadership, major emergency management, and well control. • Proven expertise in drilling operations, well engineering, and barrier management. • Solid understanding of completions, well interventions, and abandonment operations. • Proficient in the use of well engineering tools, models, and industry standards.
