Description
Field Service Engineer | Advanced Semiconductor Metrology Systems
Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire, with up to 60 percent international trave l Salary: £36,000 to £45,000 + EMI Share Options + Private Healthcare
If you’re the kind of engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems in front of real customers, this could be a seriously strong move.
Infinitesima designs advanced metrology systems used by semiconductor customers around the world. We’re scaling, our customer base is growing, and we’re building a customer support function that can match the quality of our technology.
This role sits at the sharp end of that growth. You’ll be installing, commissioning, maintaining, upgrading and troubleshooting complex systems at customer sites worldwide. These are not simple plug-and-play products. You’ll be working across electromechanical systems, optics, software-controlled platforms and precision instrumentation, often where uptime really matters.
You’ll suit this role if you’re calm under pressure, technically curious, and good at explaining complex issues clearly to customers. We’re open on background. You might come from semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, lasers, optics, photonics, vacuum systems, automation, analytical instruments, or another high-tech engineering environment.
What you’ll be doing
Installing, commissioning and upgrading advanced metrology systems at customer sites worldwide
Carrying out preventative maintenance and corrective repair work
Diagnosing complex electrical, mechanical, optical and system-level faults
Supporting customers remotely and on-site to keep performance where it needs to be
Monitoring system performance and spotting issues before they become bigger problems
Training and mentoring distributors and customer service teams
Feeding customer insight back to engineering so future products keep improving
Supporting production, test and commissioning activity at our Abingdon HQ when needed
Helping build a scalable, world-class customer support function
What we’re looking for
You’ll need a proven track record installing, maintaining or troubleshooting complex technical equipment. Just as importantly, you’ll be confident working directly with customers, taking ownership, and managing competing priorities in a fast-moving technical environment.
We DO need you to be ready and willing to travel internationally up to 60 percent of your time and often at short notice.
We’re especially interested in experience with:
Semiconductor equipment or semiconductor manufacturing environments
Semiconductor metrology or process control systems
Scientific instruments or analytical systems
Optical, laser or photonics systems
Precision electromechanical equipment
Vacuum, automation or high-tech manufacturing systems
You’ll be comfortable diagnosing faults across electrical, mechanical and software-controlled systems, and you’ll be willing and able to travel internationally on a regular basis.
Nice to have, not deal-breakers
AFM, microscopy or metrology systems knowledge
Lasers, optics or fibre-optic technologies
Networking and software configuration skills
High-voltage systems experience
Scale-up or high-growth technology company experience
Qualifications
A degree in Engineering, Physics or a related subject would be useful, but it’s not the only route in. We’re just as interested in equivalent experience gained through an apprenticeship, military service, field engineering or hands-on industry work. Demonstrated capability matters here.
Why join Infinitesima?
This is a chance to work on genuinely advanced technology, with global customers, in a company where your feedback from the field can directly shape future products. You’ll join a team that values customer focus, collaboration, care, commitment and continuous improvement.
We’re growing quickly, so this
