Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're an early-stage AI healthtech startup building a platform that automates the payer compliance lifecycle for procedural specialties — covering benefits verification, medical necessity, prior authorization, and appeals. We integrate deeply with EHR systems (Epic, Athena, eClinicalWorks and others) and work across complex provider and payer workflows.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll embed directly with customers to design, build, and own the integration layer connecting our core platform to real-world provider and payer systems. You'll sit at the intersection of engineering, customer success, and product — translating ambiguous clinical workflows into reliable, production-grade integrations that directly impact revenue and user experience.
Please note: This role requires legal eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. Candidates must be based in or willing to work from New York, NY (hybrid), with occasional travel to client sites.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own provider and payer integrations end-to-end, from discovery through to production deployment.
- Join client discovery sessions to map clinical and administrative workflows and convert them into precise technical requirements.
- Build and maintain integrations using RESTful APIs where available, and scrapers/RPA tooling where legacy systems require it.
- Ship custom integrations quickly to meet time-sensitive client needs.
- Contribute to core product development when integration work allows.
- Develop deep working knowledge of the US provider/payer landscape, including HIPAA/HITECH and HL7 standards.
- Work across a Python/FastAPI backend and React + TypeScript frontend as needed.
- Operate and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP with Postgres-backed services.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and client teams.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
- 2–5 years of full-stack engineering experience, ideally on small startup teams with broad ownership.
- Proven track record owning features or products end-to-end with minimal guidance.
- Strong experience integrating with third-party RESTful APIs (authentication, data mapping, error handling).
- Hands-on experience building web scrapers or RPA workflows for legacy or non-API systems.
- Cloud infrastructure experience on AWS or GCP.
- Familiarity with Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Postgres, and GitHub.
- Domain knowledge in US healthcare — familiarity with payer/provider workflows, HIPAA/HITECH, and HL7 standards.
- Experience building AI-enabled features in production (beyond personal use of coding assistants).
- Active, fluent use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate shipping.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills — able to tell a clear technical story to non-technical audiences.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (dealbreaker).
Nice to Have:
- Experience as a forward deployed or customer-facing engineer.
- Comfort with ambiguity and rapid iteration in an early-stage environment.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary: $150,000 – $230,000 USD annually, depending on experience.
- Equity participation in an early-stage, venture-backed company.
- Opportunity for high-impact, high-visibility work with direct access to leadership and customers.
LOCATION
- Hybrid — based in New York, NY.
- In-person presence required when called upon; some client travel expected.
- No visa sponsorship available — must be authorized to work in the US.
