Description
The Head of Data Governance is responsible for defining and leading the organization’s enterprise-wide Data Governance framework, ensuring that data is managed as a strategic asset. This role drives the vision, strategy, and execution of data governance initiatives, including data quality, ownership, stewardship, metadata management, and compliance. Main Accountabilities Defines, owns, and implements the Enterprise Data Governance Strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall data and digital strategy. Establishes and oversees data governance policies, standards, and operating models, including frameworks for data quality, metadata, and master data management. Ensures the effective design and governance of data architecture and data zones within the organization’s data platforms, driving standardization and reusability. Oversees the creation and maintenance of enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, and physical), ensuring consistency and alignment with business needs. Drives data literacy and accountability across all business functions by establishing data governance KPIs, metrics, and reporting. Engages with senior business stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and external partners to ensure compliance with internal and external data management standards. Provides thought leadership on emerging data governance trends, tools, and technologies, guiding continuous improvement initiatives. Oversees the profiling, onboarding, and certification of new data sources, ensuring adherence to governance and quality standards. Acts as the Product Owner for data-related transformation inititiaves that involve ingesting new sources of data or improving the quality of existing data. Requirements Education, Experience and Technical Skills Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Management, or related field Master’s degree in Data Management, or other related field. Minimum 8–10 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data architecture roles, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity. Proven track record in developing and implementing enterprise data governance frameworks and strategies. Strong understanding of data modeling practices, metadata management, master data management (MDM), and data quality frameworks. Experience with data governance and modeling tools (e.g., Informatica Axon, Collibra, Erwin, Alation, etc.). Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements related to data (e.g., GDPR, BCBS 239, DORA). Strong business acumen in financial services, risk management, and data-driven decision-making. Technical fluency with relational databases, SQL, and data integration concepts; knowledge of Python, Spark, or data pipeline orchestration is a plus. Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to articulate data governance concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
