Description
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The University of Gothenburg aims to be an international institution that attracts international students to its programmes and courses. Today we have around 80 Master programmes and an additional ten Bachelor programmes in English that are open to international applicants.
To communicate with future students and to help international students get a good start to their studies, we have a team of student ambassadors. Our student ambassadors are enrolled students who represent the University towards prospective students, share their experience of what it is like to be a student here, and assist the University’s Welcome Programme and various events throughout the academic year.
As part of our international outreach, we are active on a variety of Chinese social media platforms, on which our student ambassadors play a key role in representing the University to prospective students from China.
The role is based at the Communication Unit, which is part of the University's Central Administration. We work with communication in many different areas: press, research communication, web and digital channels, student recruitment, visual identity, and more. Work assignments will also be carried out through the University’s International Centre.
Job assignments
As an international student ambassador, you are part of a team of 15-20 ambassadors from all over the world with a variety of educational backgrounds and study areas. Two of our ambassadors will have a particular focus on the University’s presence on Chinese social media platforms.
The main tasks of our student ambassadors are:
Creating social media content: You will help represent the University of Gothenburg on platforms such as Weibo, WeChat, and Xiaohongshu, providing information and inspiration through content to prospective students from China
Communicating with prospective international students with a focus on providing information about studying at the University of Gothenburg.
Supporting our Welcome Programme for new international students, as well as events throughout the academic year.
Student ambassador tasks are diverse and flexible, and there will be opportunities to get involved in different activities throughout the academic year. Specific examples include:
Taking part in and hosting webinars and digital sessions
Attending virtual study fairs
Taking part in content creation for social media
Planning and running events for new students (venue setup and cleanup, taking care of activities during an event, and acting as guides for visitors)
Organising social activities for new and current international students
Participation in information sessions on different subjects (e.g. life in Sweden, exchange and internship opportunities)
The employment is an intermittent/on-demand employment that is paid on an hourly basis. There are no fixed working hours, and throughout the academic year there will be more or less busy periods.
As an international student ambassador, your assignments are flexible, and you can contribute with your own experiences and interests. You can both plan much of your work independently or work together with other ambassadors – of course, always in accordance with your studies. You will be able to conduct your work from home but are also very welcome to join us for meetings or work sessions at the Communication Unit’s or International Centre’s offices.
