Description
As a Machining Co-op Student, you’ll build practical shop experience while contributing to real manufacturing work at Unifiller, a Coperion brand – part of Hillenbrand, in Richmond, British Columbia. You’ll learn by working with experienced team members, using machining and inspection tools, and seeing how quality parts are made from drawing to finished product. We design and build equipment used in food production environments. This opportunity will help you strengthen core machining skills, build confidence in a production setting, and develop habits that support long-term success in manufacturing. WHAT YOU’LL DO: • Select tools, machines, and materials by following drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions so jobs are set up correctly and efficiently. • Machine parts using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other shop equipment to produce components that meet specifications and tolerances. • Measure, inspect, and test completed work with micrometers, verniers, and other precision instruments to confirm quality and identify defects. • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering information to understand machining methods, fabrication steps, and sequence of work. • Support welding and fabrication work by following drawings, bills of materials, and specifications with accuracy and attention to detail. • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area by using required safety equipment, following procedures, and supporting efficient shop operations. • Assist with training and general shop tasks when needed so the team can meet production, quality, and safety expectations. TEAM: • You’ll work alongside machinists, fabricators, and other manufacturing team members who will support your learning through hands-on experience and day-to-day collaboration. You’ll contribute to a respectful, team-based environment where different perspectives are valued, and your work will help support consistent results across Unifiller and Hillenbrand. THE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED: • You’re currently enrolled in the CNC Machinist BCIT. • You have basic knowledge of machining tools, equipment, and shop practices used in a manufacturing environment. • You can read and follow blueprints, technical drawings, bills of materials, and written instructions with care and accuracy. • You have the mechanical and mathematical aptitude needed to work with measurements, tolerances, and part specifications. • You’re open to learning, asking questions, and applying feedback as you build your machining and fabrication skills. • You can stay organized, manage your time well, and work carefully in a fast-paced shop environment. • You communicate clearly, work well with others, and show respect for teammates from different backgrounds and experiences. • You can work independently with appropriate guidance, maintain a professional attitude, and safely lift up to 50 pounds. The hourly pay range is $25 - $27. Exact compensation will be based on experience, education, and other job-related factors.
