Description
CIQ is an enterprise infrastructure company building Rocky Linux distributions and infrastructure tools. As a Principal Linux Engineer, you will own software solutions for Rocky Linux, focusing on building, patching, and testing userspace packages in the operating system while improving tooling and automation in the package-building process. What You'll Do • Build, patch, and test userspace packages in Rocky Linux distributions • Remediate CVEs in RPM packages shipped to customers and understand CVE mitigation strategies • Customize, optimize, and create packages to improve customer experience with products • Develop automated tests for specific software and system-wide testing • Participate in architecture-level discussions, planning, and implementation with engineering and product teams • Collaborate with open-source community and leverage source control (GitHub/GitLab) for development • Support deployment across server architectures, virtual machines, and cloud infrastructure What You Need • Deep understanding of Linux OS packaging (RPM or DEB) and how Linux operating systems work • Knowledge of CVE remediation for older versions of code • Proven experience with Linux administration, Linux internals, Docker, and Kubernetes • Proficiency in Bash, YAML, XML, JSON, REST APIs/OpenAPI, and HTTP protocols • Experience with CI/CD tools and processes • At least 4 years supporting Linux and at least 2 years building Linux packages • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment Nice to Have • Familiarity with Ansible playbooks and DoD STIG/SCAP/RADIX processes • Experience with Python, GoLang, and other emerging tools/technologies • Background in problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills Medical, dental, and vision insurance; flexible paid time off; employee stock options
