Oetiker Tool Corporation, a subsidiary of Oetiker, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of quality hand tools serving as the internal hand tool center of competency for Oetiker as well as engaging customers directly across a variety of industries.  Our tools are used by professionals in the electrical, electronic, datacom, automotive, and plumbing industries.  We specialize in constantly improving designs and introducing new, innovative hand tools based on our customers' and engineers' extensive trade knowledge. With 1800+ employees in more than 30 countries and over 75 years of experience, Oetiker is a trusted, global, long-term partner for the world’s leading OEMs. Position Summary: The R&D Mechanical Engineer is a key link to product realization.  Under the lead of the Project Manager and with the backing of the global R&D team, the role transforms customer needs into final products through engineering design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and production development with the ultimate goal to deliver innovative products and solutions to our global customers. Essential Functions: • Design and develop new mechanical hand tools (Design & Industrialization) while meeting quality, cost and time targets. • Create concepts, feasibility studies, physical prototypes, detailed drawings, assembly drawings, product documentation. • Execute feasibility, verification, and validation tests; consolidate and evaluate test results; develop & continuously improve test equipment and global procedures. • Carry out engineering analysis for new and existing designs, including FEA, tolerance analysis, and stress analysis • Assist with analysis and resolution of customer quality issues • Propose suggestions for product and department improvements • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional project team, suppliers, and customers. • Deploy state-of-the-art engineering (e.g. Design for Six Sigma) and technical risk management tools • Define technical requirements and track fulfillment Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: • 3D-CAD and technical drafting, preferably SolidWorks • Hands-on product development, including use of basic shop equipment and machine tools and 3D printers • Microsoft Office Suite (Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) • Ability to explain complex technical issues to a non-technical audience • Demonstrated drive (energy, determination, motivation) and a can-do mentality • Precise working style with a high commitment to quality • Proven analytical and engineering expertise (Design for Six Sigma, Finite Element Analysis) • Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and negotiate effectively across all levels and all functions of the organization • High integrity, fair, emotionally mature, self-aware with a high degree of intellectual curiosity Education / Experience: • 3+ years experience as R&D Mechanical Engineer, a focus on consumer products and mechanism design is a plus • Higher degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (BSc, MSc) combined with relevant work experience.
