Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter specializing in Hull & Machinery (H&M) and Protection & Indemnity (P&I) risks. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting complex marine risks, managing key market relationships, and achieving profitable portfolio growth. Key Responsibilities • Underwrite new business and renewal accounts for H&M and P&I risks. • Assess vessel exposures, ownership structure, trading operations, claims history, and risk information. • Determine appropriate underwriting terms, conditions, deductibles, and pricing. • Manage complex vessel and fleet portfolios across international markets. • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, shipowners, operators, and cedants. • Negotiate renewals and new business opportunities to achieve underwriting objectives. • Monitor portfolio performance, profitability, and risk accumulation. • Work closely with claims, loss prevention, and reinsurance functions. • Provide technical guidance and support to underwriting colleagues. • Contribute to underwriting strategy and business development initiatives. Requirements • Minimum 15 years of marine underwriting experience. • Strong technical expertise in Hull & Machinery and Protection & Indemnity underwriting. • Proven experience handling complex vessel and fleet accounts. • Strong knowledge of international shipping operations and marine insurance markets. • Excellent risk assessment, negotiation, and portfolio management skills. • Established relationships with marine brokers, shipowners, operators, and cedants. • Strong commercial judgement and track record of profitable underwriting performance. • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Maritime Studies, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline preferred. • Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, ANZIIF, CPCU, or equivalent are advantageous. • Experience with Builders’ All Risks (BAR) and Ship Repairers’ Liability (SRL) is an advantage. Ideal Candidate Profile A senior marine underwriting professional with over 15 years of experience in H&M and P&I risks, strong market expertise, and the ability to manage complex accounts while delivering sustainable underwriting results.
