Black & McDonald is seeking a Shift Operator located in North Bay Ontario. The position typically reports directly to the Facility Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Carry out the day-to-day execution of operations and monitoring programs to ensure uninterrupted tenant operations and that asset integrity is maintained either directly or via building automation systems
• Maintain comfort levels to building environment through the computerized building automation system or manual systems
• Monitor the Building Automation Systems (BAS) and respond to alarms and system notifications. Trouble shoot, analyze and determine the root cause of equipment and building problems
• Develop and implement control procedures to operate systems to increase efficiency of building operations
• Perform shift tours, record and log equipment status, temperatures and pressures, utilities, etc.
• Conduct weekly generator inspection and generator run ups
• Perform routine inspection, preventive maintenance and repairs on building equipment as required
• Receive tenant service requests, action those within your expertise, and dispatch all others to the appropriate personnel, including after‑hours and weekend calls.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma
• Building Environmental Systems (BES 2) certification
• Power Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechanical or Electrical Technology diploma considered an asset
• Ontario Trade Certificate of Qualification or equivalent considered an asset
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 1 year experience minimum
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Good understanding of building operations including but not limited to HVACR, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Lift Safety
• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) considered an asset
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
• Strong safety mindset, reliability, accountability
• Ability to work independently or part of a team
• Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
• Good judgement
• Able to converse on the phone with clients in a polite and helpful manner
• Basic tool competence
• Ability to read and follow procedures
• Strong computer skills
Due to contractual requirements, candidates must be Canadian Citizens who are able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (Canadian Citizen with 10 years of continuous residency within Canada).
This position’s wage rate follows the 787 Union Agreement schedule.
