A Surveyor is responsible for surveying the land available for construction projects. The responsibilities of a construction surveyor include preparation of worksheets, plans, boundary descriptions; providing consultation on land development projects; read a blue print and map; surveying land for various project sites; and communicating with clients, staff, and construction crew.   Assist Supervisor or perform other tasks as assigned. Essential Job Skills • Be organized and able to follow verbal and written instructions • Be able to work with others and also to work independently on assigned tasks • Be proficient in use of, but not limited to, GPS, Total Station, tape measure and other surveying equipment • Be able to read blueprints, maps and other required surveying or project documents • Put away equipment/tools at the end of the day, and maintain good housekeeping and safety at all times Basic Employment Requirements • Prior experience with heavy construction staking, topo, GPS and conventional methods of surveying • Be committed to work safely and to wear all of the required safety equipment • Be able to read and understand Safety and Employment requirements • Be dependable and consistent with regards to attendance and punctuality • Willing and able to work extended hours and possible nights and weekends as required • Tolerate temperature extremes and changing jobsite conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.) Education/Other Requirements • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering desired • Certified survey technician designation is a plus • Proficient mathematical and computer skills • AutoCAD Software Ames Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
